Welcome to The Pastry Palette! I’m Cherie and I’m so glad you stopped by. I can’t wait to share with you everything from creating great tasting, delectable desserts and foods to tips and time-saving tricks in the kitchen. I’m a baker, mother, wife, avid reader, and now my newest venture as blogger. I love to create with my hands, be it baking, drawing, crafting and most recently, learning how to quilt. When it comes down to it, I’m old fashioned at heart with old fashioned values. We live on a farm in California –– Missouri, that is. California is a small rural community in the middle of the state.
I’ve enjoyed cooking, creating and experimenting in the kitchen from the time I was old enough to help my mom, and I’ve enjoyed it ever since. Some of my fondest memories of my childhood are of me and my mom baking. So, from time to time I’ll post kid-friendly recipes to encourage bonding with the children in your life. Hopefully, it’ll create great memories for you, too!
As a wife and a mother of two young children, ages 11 and 8, life can get, well, pretty hectic at times – but never too hectic to bake and create! My blog has been years in the making (or years thinking about doing this, to be more accurate). I often create with whatever I have on hand in the kitchen…a little bit of this, a little bit of that… taste… a bit more of that …and so on. I never wrote anything down. Ever. When a creation comes out great, my husband will often ask, “did you write down what you did?” My response, “Um, (sigh) …no.” Well, if I don’t write it down, how can I expect to share it with you? So, I got into the habit of when I create in the kitchen, I do it with a pad and paper at hand, and now I want to share with you the great recipes from my “gallery”!
My goal is for everyone to enjoy and to find my recipes user friendly, so all recipes will include metrics converted from the Standard (Imperial) weights and measures used in the United States.
Additional facts about me:
When I’m not baking, or spending time with my family, I’m reading. I’m an avid reader of crime/mystery novels. My favorite authors – Harlan Coben, James Rollins, Linda Castillo, Michael Crichton and Alex Kava.
Biggest pet peeve: Rudeness!!! When someone holds a door, or does something nice, my children know how to say, “please” and “thank you” and can look someone in the eye when they talk to someone. Why is this so hard for people to do nowadays?
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the University of Florida. Now I can finally put that to use, doing some I love!
